Award-winning Crosshill service is hailed by locals

It's hardly surprising that Crosshill was named Scotland's "Best Town and City" post office judging by the reaction of its customers.

The Glaswegian quizzed six customers about their local Post Office and everyone gave it both thumbs up.

Locals admitted they were also pleased just to have access to a nearby post office following a wave of closures in recent years.

Alison Hart, 30, of Govanhill, said she was impressed by the way Crosshill post office staff kept the queues moving during busy times.

The production assistant said: "The queue always moves and I've never had a bad experience here.

"It's the only post office I really use as the one in town is always heaving.

"It's great to see the post office has stayed open with all the ones that have closed recently." Local customer Sheila Sandlan, 65, a retired clerical officer, thought the secret to the post office's success is its courteous staff.

She said: "I've lived here all my life and used this post office for many years.

The service is always first class.

"The staff are very courteous and pleasant which you don't always get at other places.

"It's good to see it is still open. The one at Govanhill was closed a few years ago.

"If this one wasn't here it would be a long way for old people to travel."

Donald MacNeill, 62, found that the Crosshill workers always managed to control the queues at busy periods.

The semi-retired bus driver, who lives near the post office, said: "Every time I am in the service they give me is brilliant.

"Sometimes there can be a bit of a queue but it always goes away in about 10 minutes." Glasgow School of Art student Tommy Politto, 33, from Rome, Italy, was also pleased that Crosshill had picked up the award.

Tommy, who lives locally, said: "I like using this post office and I find the service to be excellent.

"I come here because I live nearby. It's good that it has won this award." Support worker John O'Neill, 44, said he was just happy to see the post office when so many had closed down.

He said: "I probably come here about once a week. It's a good place to use.

"I actually heard a rumour it was going to be closed down a while back so I'm glad it is still open becasue there are not many others post offices nearby."

Nicholas Mather, 35, from Pollokshields, also praised Scotland's "Best Town and City" post office for the way it coped at busy times.

He said: "Over the festive period it can get very busy with people sending cards and presents and I have seen the queue go out of the door. But it is definitely a good post office and it's nice that it has won this award."
