Man hurt in post office robbery

A man was assaulted trying to stop an offender leaving an armed raid at a post office in Warwickshire.

Two men walked into Sydenham Post office in Leamington Spa on Monday night and demanded staff hand over money, police said.

One of the men threatened a worker with a commando-style knife while the other escaped with cash from the safe.

As the second man left a member of the public challenged him and was assaulted, but not seriously hurt.

The robbers were described as white men, in their late teens to mid 20s, wearing dark clothing with masks or scarves.

Get-away cars

During the raid at about 2000 BST they stole cash from the safe and the contents of the till.

They were possibly joined by a third man waiting for them in a car outside, Warwickshire Police said.

The raiders escaped in a silver Mitsubishi Evolution and drove to the Three Horseshoes pub car park in Bubbenhall, Coventry.

There the men were spotted getting into a dark-coloured VW Golf, driven by a fourth man.

West Midlands Police said the Mitsubishi was stolen during a burglary in Coventry on Friday.

Three men broke into an address in Grange Road, Longford, Coventry, at about 2320 BST, before threatening the occupants, stealing their car keys and driving off in the vehicle.

Anyone with information about the stolen car is asked to contact West Midlands Police and anyone with information about the post office robbery should contact Warwickshire Police.
