A NORTH Lincolnshire postman who 'couldn't be bothered' to deliver the mail, is facing a potential jail sentence.

Simon Fletcher (22), of Comforts Avenue, Scunthorpe, admitted dumping hundreds of postal packets in a skip.

And, when questioned about his actions, he confessed he had done the same thing on a number of previous occasions.

Richard Lunn, prosecuting for Royal Mail at North Lincolnshire Magistrates' Court, said Fletcher was challenged about his actions. "His reply was I am going to prison for it – aren't I?" he said.

He was questioned about the dumped post. And, Mr Lunn said: "He made full and frank admissions. He was asked why he was disposing of the packets and he stated it was just plain laziness."

Defence solicitor Ian Haywood pointed out his client had no previous convictions.

He said Fletcher committed the crimes because he was frustrated with his employment. "He got to the point he couldn't be bothered," he explained.

The court heard defendant had lost his job, but he had since found alternative work with North Lincolnshire Council.

Fletcher admitted four counts of criminal damage and one offence of attempted criminal damage.

The case was adjourned for reports and he was granted unconditional bail until the sentencing hearing, which will take place at 2.15pm on April 22.
