Crowthorne campaigners are hoping to reverese a decision to shut their local sorting office with a petition.
Councillors and Bracknell MP Andrew MacKay have sent Royal Mail a 1,600-signature petition calling for the Kings Road delivery office to stay open.
Royal Mail announced it was closing the sorting office in february but now campaigners believe they may be able to reverse the decision thanks to the petition.
Tina McKenzie-Boyle, chairman of Crowthorne Parish Council, said: “We had a meeting with the Royal Mail and we are working in partnership with them to seek a solution to the benefit of the community.”
Crowthorne Parish Council, Wokingham Borough Council, Bracknell Forest Council and Wokingham Without Parish Council organised the petition.
there is a fear the petition had come too late to save the 11-year-old delivery office in Kings Road after the Royal Mail announced the closure before the forms could be handed in.
But Bracknell MP Andrew MacKay sent it to Adam Crozier, chief executive of Royal Mail, in the hope that he will overturn the ruling.
Mr MacKay said: “I have said to Mr Crozier that the sheer numbers of people who have signed this petition underline the local concern about the proposed closure of the sorting office.
“I have again asked him to reconsider his decision because it would really harm the local community.”
If the delivery office is closed people from Crowthorne and Wokingham Without will have to pick up undelivered mail from Bracknell.
