Twelve post boxes in Croydon were sealed off for five days after a set of keys to them were stolen.
Disgruntled residents were unable to post their letters in central Croydon and a few outlying areas as Royal Mail arranged for the locks to be changed on the boxes.
A spokesman said he was not sure how the keys were stolen but assured residents that the problem would be fixed today.
He said: "We can confirm that 12 letter boxes in the Central Croydon area were sealed last Thursday following the theft of a set of keys.
“The locks have been replaced on six of them with the rest due to be completed today (Tuesday). We apologise to any of our customers who have been inconvenienced.
