Cotswolds MP Delivers Petition Showing Level of Opposition to Sorting Office Closure

Cotswolds MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown yesterday delivered a petition to the House of Commons signed by residents of Wotton and the surrounding area expressing their opposition to the closure of the sorting office in Wotton.

Following the delivery of the petition the Government Department with overall responsibility for Royal Mail, the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, is required to respond to the points raised in the text.

Mr Clifton-Brown has already challenged Pat McFadden, the Minister responsible for Royal Mail, in a debate in the House where he received no satisfactory answers and has as yet received no response from the Minister's office to his request for a meeting.

Speaking today Mr Clifton-Brown said "I have already criticised Royal Mail for their lack of communication with the people of Wotton on this issue and the Government have been equally silent"

"The decision has been taken with no consultation, despite jobs being put at risk, and the Government has allowed Royal Mail to go ahead without intervention. I am therefore grateful for the opportunity to present this petition and show Pat McFadden and the Government how many people are opposed to this move by Royal Mail"
