The postal service is concerned that property owners are not installing common ground floor mailboxes in accordance with next year’s regulations
From next year postmen will no longer deliver mail directly to the door of apartments in multi-storey buildings, but to a common mailbox located on the ground floor.
However the national postal service, Post Danmark, is concerned that property owners are not taking enough measures to facilitate the change.
The parliament decided in 2004 that all multi-storey apartment blocks erected before 1974 must have a ground-floor mail box facility before the end of this year.
Public broadcaster DR reports that around one million residents will be affected by the move, but only a third have installed a shared ground floor mailbox.
Søren Ravn Jensen of Post Danmark said that the company understands that it takes time for residents to agree on the location of a common mail box, but that it is the property owner’s responsibility to ensure the facility is installed.
Post Danmark plans to send a letter to all affected property owners within the coming weeks to inform them about the installation of mailbox facilities.
The ordinance will not affect people over the age of 65, who can apply to their post office to continue to have their mail delivered direct to the doorstep. Those with disabilities or mobility impairments can apply for a dispensation to the local council social services department.

NOT - but there should be legislation that all new properties and replacement doors should have a letter box not less than 1 metre from the floor.

The European standard for letter boxes, EN 13724:2002 "Postal services – Apertures of private letter boxes and letter plates – Requirements and test methods", replaces earlier national standards such as BS 2911:1974 "Specification for letter plates" 32617. It specifies among other things:
* that envelope C4 (229 mm × 324 mm) must be deliverable without bending or damage;
* that the internal volume must able to hold at least a 40 mm high bundle of C4 envelopes;
* an apertureAperture (width of either 230–280 mm (> C4 width) or 325–400 mm (> C4 height);
* an aperture height of 30–35 mm;
* a mounting height of between 0.7 and 1.7 m for the aperture;
* and various privacy, theft-protection, rain protection, vandalism resistance and corrosion-resistance test requirements.
