Ok,it's an old link,but one i would like to shove in my managers face.

Over half my office was off in various stages because of the flu and the norvirus thing around xmas time,and a lot of you had it as well i rem.

Now stages warnings have been triggered,my argument,it was an epedimic,pratically half the country was ill.

WHEN the warnings are given,as you know they will be,what's the score for sorting out a grivence.

If it was me brother POSTMAN I would be referring them to a copy of the following communication that was issued at the time by Dr Su Wang Royal Mail Group Head of Health:

With Britain in the grip of a Norovirus outbreak our Head of Health has offered some guidance.

Noroviruses are a group of viruses also known as ‘winter vomiting virus” which cause vomiting and diarrhoea. It is easily transmitted from one person to another by direct contact, by consuming contaminated food or water or by contact with contaminated surfaces or objects. The effects will be felt around 12 to 48 hours after becoming infected and last for 1 or 2 days.

Noroviruses are common infections affecting up to 1 million people in the UK every year. There are no long-term affects.

The important thing is to avoid hand mouth contact - so wearing gloves for example will not make a difference if personal hygiene is not maintained. The emphasis must be on personal hygiene - washing hands before eating and avoiding hand to mouth contact. We "touch" loads of bugs each day, but they do not cause us harm if we observe personal hygiene. So handling mail by itself is not the problem.

If you catch a Norovirus you should:
• Stay at home to avoid spreading the infection to others,
• Don't go to the GP - keep away,
• Don't go to Hospital A&E departments - keep away,
• Wash your hands regularly and practise good hygiene to reduce the risk of the illness spreading and avoid handling food,
• Those who have been infected should be isolated for 48 hours or in other words stay home for two days after the symptoms cleared up and gone away,
• Those worried, particularly in the case of young children or elderly people should ring the GP surgery for advice,
• There is no treatment other than to let the illness run its course.

Yes, that's one absence......... It'll be genuine like all the others that go towards the warnings.

No joy on the grievance front, the process is accepted as reasonable in law. People might not like it, but there you go...........

I dropped a couple of days over the xmas pressure due to a flu type bug. I tried to work through it but the longer days made me feel really ill. Thankfully it will not trigger a stage warning but i will look forward to xmas 2009 when no doubt i will be issude with a high risk sickness letter, which will be nice.

I'm still amazed that people think they will get a fair hearing when they trigger a stage warning. Accident on duty ? Your fault. Half the country down with flu or whatever? You're immune. Your age taken into consideration? I don't think so. Managers are not nice people, outwardly they may be friendly but underneath they ain't. Never forget that . If you are sick you are a drain on the budget.
