Redundancies
If redundancies are decided in the next 18 months or whenever, in what way will the company go about it? Will they just settle for the natural wastage route/ pensioning off/ voluntary redundancies or will it be the nasty slash and burn? Can anyone estimate the amount to go? I know the union said about 40,000/50,000.

I would think 50,000 and redundancy not if royalmail has their way!. You could be moved from office to office up and down the land!.Lee246 wrote:If redundancies are decided in the next 18 months or whenever, in what way will the company go about it? Up to now RM has got rid off staff on a voluntary basis - Early Voluntary Retirement if you are over 55,
or Voluntary Redundancy if under 55 or already on pension. But if they are going to bring in TNT to do
the slash and burn, who knows how they will do it.

It wont take long for RM to cut 40/50 thousand staff, if thats what they decide on. Natural wasteage along with EVR / redeployments it would be cut within 3 yrs.

Why do they need to cut staff anyway, most days they struggle to get things covered in my place and with more people only working the hours they are paid to do also.

If 50,000 are going then I don't want to be one of them whats left. I do more than my fair share of the work already!

opgpat posted this in another thread. Have a look, Makes interesting reading.
Basically TNT in Holland made the same arguments - declining mail volumes,
staff paid 20/25% higher than competitors, need to cut costs etc.

And they say they will use compulsory redundancies if they can't get agreement with the union.

I hope managers are going as well. 6 managers in our place for 150 walks, plus 4 new ones who are doing pegasus revisions. Tell a few people to sort then go and eat cake in the office. I've been doing indoors work for a couple of days and they do absolutely nothing apart from ignore the phone and go home at 12. It's not surprising were one of the worst DO in the country.
I think a managers job could be done in an hour, well for 30 deliveries anyway. Why not have a Postperson do it with there duty, maybe instead of sorting?

we have excess managers but the office is ran on a day to day adhoc basis with little if any forward ,cohesive, planning.if the job cuts are what they say then managemet will take a big hit.i come from a retail background and could easily see whole tiers of management going as the day to day work is covered by support staff.i feel that royal mail have purposefully left management alone knowing that as each office and centre are sorted out the opportunity will come.we may also see more managers going over disciplinary issues where previously they were rapped over the knuckles.quadeck wrote:I hope managers are going as well. 6 managers in our place for 150 walks, plus 4 new ones who are doing pegasus revisions.
