Injured postie in stable condition

Postwoman Mandy Tyler was airlifted to hospital after fracturing her skull while delivering mail on Friday.

Ms Tyler, 45, of Chippenham, was walking along Brookside in Hullavington when she slipped on black ice.

She was flown to Frenchay Hospital and yesterday was still in hospital where she is conscious and her condition is said to be stable.

Her partner, Linda Wootten, 60, with whom she entered into a civil partnership two years ago at Chippenham Register Office, was keen to thank Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

She said: “The air ambulance was wonderful, I’m so grateful. They probably saved Mandy’s life.

“She hit the back of her head and was bleeding from her ear and so the paramedics decided to get her into an air ambulance.”

She added: “It is very worrying, but I am thankful it wasn’t much worse.

“The air ambulance helped a lot because it would have taken much longer for the road ambulance to get to hospital.”

Mrs Wootten added: “We were hoping Mandy would come out on Wednesday but a scan showed that there was some bleeding at the front of her brain and so she’s on tablets to reduce the swelling.

“She’s having another scan on Friday and hopefully the bleeding will have gone down.

“She’s also lost her sense of taste and smell but hopefully they might come back.”

The couple have received hundreds of cards.

Mrs Wootten, who does not drive, said everyone has been very supportive, especially those friends who are taking it in turns to drive her to Frenchay and back.
