A familiar face will be back on his regular postman's round next week after Royal Mail bowed to pressure from angry villagers who were furious when he was moved.

Two weeks ago a group of villagers told the Evening News how they were fuming that popular postie Kevin Hudson was being moved from his regular round in Weston Longville and neighbouring villages to a different round.

The villagers then staged the first of what was expected to be a series of protests at the Royal Mail sorting office in Norwich.

Each village within Mr Hudson's round also started a petition, and The Evening News learned today that Mr Hudson will be back on his regular round from Monday .

Campaign co-ordinator Peter Ross, from Weston Longville, said: “It's brilliant news and we are all delighted that Kevin will be back next week.

“It shows that our campaign worked and that the Royal Mail listened to us, and thanks also to the Evening News for running our protest in the paper.

“Mr Hudson is an exceptional ambassador for Royal Mail who has developed excellent relationships with everyone on his round and is highly valued for the quality service he provides.”

Mr Hudson had worked the same beat to the north-west of the city for 21 years but he was moved to an adjacent round about five weeks ago.

The 50-year-old, from Ollands Road, Reepham, who was unavailable for comment yesterday, said at the time that it was flattering that people thought so much of him they were willing to fight to get him back.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said originally that Mr Hudson was moved due to a change in the route of the round at its Lyng delivery office.

A spokeswoman added today: “We are pleased that our customers have had such excellent service from one of our postmen. He will be returning to his duty on Monday .”

Earlier this year the Evening News organised a public meeting and a petition to prevent the closure of post offices across the county.
