Tuesday, 11.45am - A CASHIER was threatened by two masked men with samurai swords last night in an attempted robbery at Knipton Post Office in the Vale of Belvoir.
The man was treated in hospital for "minor" injuries to his arm and hand after the incident at 5pm.
The would-be robbers escaped empty-handed.
It is the second time in five days that the post office has been targeted.
On Wednesday evening, the owners returned to find intruders had got in, damaged the counter and tried to get into the safe, although again, nothing was taken.
Police are investigating whether the two attempts are linked.
Det Con Pete Martin, from Melton CID, said: "Thankfully the cashier was not seriously injured but has obviously been shaken by what happened.
"We are actively looking into CCTV and making house to house enquiries in the area and it is important anyone who has any information regarding these incidents urgently gets in touch with us.
"I would also like to reassure the community that incidents of this nature are rare in small villages such as Knipton and a full investigation is now underway with officers trying to piece together exactly what happened."
Police want to speak to the occupants of a small silver/grey car which was seen parked outside the Post Office at around 8.35pm on Wednesday, November 26, around the time the first break-in was discovered.
Witnesses have said the first part of the car's registration was AG08.
On Friday, four masked men armed with bats raided Ancaster Post Office and stole a substantial amount of cash after threatening the postmaster.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 385 Pete Martin at Melton CID on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 0385.
Or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
