Rottweiler and SUV land postman in hospital

Through rain, snow, sleet and hail but how about big, angry dogs and SUVs?

A local mailman tangled with one of each on Wednesday and lived to tell the tale.

He was wounded, but smiling when I caught up with him today.

Normally, he's the delivery man.

But today, Calvin Smith is on the receiving end.

He's a postman, hospitalized because of a rottweiler and an SUV.

"That car did save me, because if not, I'm sure he would have mauled me to death," said Smith.

It happened on Beltline Road in Richardson.

He was crossing the street Wednesday when the big dog attacked, forcing Smith into the road, where an SUV hit him and the dog at once.

"170 pounds at least, jumping at you, coming full force," he said.

Calvin rolled up over the SUV - the dog has not been seen since.

"I came out to see what the noise was and that's when I saw Calvin laying there motionless," said neighbor, Jennifer Frazier.

"I understand he's very popular at the post office and well-loved there, too."

She sent flowers to the hospital.

Smith's been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.

The dog belongs to the homeowner at 804 Beltline.

No dog in sight today and no one came to the door.

Smith still has no feeling in his right foot, and admits he's bruised up but suffered no broken bones.

"I'm not dead yet," he said.

A dedicated mailman who dodged dog teeth and traffic - until the two teamed up.

Hope the owner got prosecuted, it could have been worse. I hate bad dog owners and whats the point of owning a rotweiler ?
