THE search is on for first class postmen and women in Yorkshire.

Royal Mail is asking Yorkshire residents to nominate postmen and women who are the unsung heroes in their community.

The company wants to hear about postal staff who are charity fundraisers in their spare time, have performed a public- spirited act or dealt with an emergency while doing their deliveries.

Nominations should relate to the period from January to December 2008.

Mark Higson, Royal Mail’s managing director, explained: “Because our people make daily deliveries to all 28 million addresses in the UK, they are often first at the scene in house fires, road accidents and robberies, and they instinctively get involved.

“It is these people, who help local people with their acts of kindness or voluntary work, that we want to hear about, as well as the incredible feats of bravery our postmen and women perform each year.”

There is over £30,000 in prize money to be won and every entrant who is short-listed will receive £100.

Every customer who sends in a nomination will have their name entered into a prize draw to win £1,000 in holiday vouchers.

Customers should write to Royal Mail at: First Class People Awards, Royal Mail, 1st Floor, 148 Old Street, London, EC1V 9HQ, or email: nominations@royalmail.com

Closing date for nominations is January 12, 2009.
