A FORMER York postman has admitted burning mail in his back garden and failing to deliver 10,000 items.
Neil Goddard, 31, of Gale Lane, Acomb, was making his first appearance before York Crown Court on a series of charges related to his work with Royal Mail this year and last year.
He admitted that he had intentionally delayed the delivery of 227 addressed postal packets and 9,765 items which he should have delivered on a door-to-door basis between April 25 and March 3.
He also admitted committing fraud by lying to his bosses over eight door-to-door delivery contracts.
He pleaded guilty to three charges that between them said he wrongly claimed to have carried out two of the contracts on October 29, three of them in the week starting December 3 and three of them in the week starting February 25.
He admitted an arson charge that said he had burned postal packets belonging to Royal Mail Group Ltd between January 1 and March 3.
His case was adjourned for sentence on a date to be decided and he was released on bail.
