Man's parcel complaints trigger Evri investigation

A Folkestone man said he was left about £2,000 out of pocket after parcels and returns handled by delivery company Evri went missing.

Aleksej Zemlanojs gathered CCTV footage, tracking information and correspondence with retailers before reporting his concerns to police.

Kent Police said the matter was a civil issue and had earlier told Zemlanojs there was insufficient evidence to prove a theft had taken place.

Evri said it investigated the allegations and that a driver working for a third-party contractor would no longer be delivering on its behalf. The company also said it had identified "inconsistencies in the customer's account" and was investigating further.

'Nobody was listening'
Zemlanojs said he raised concerns after several parcels were marked as delivered but did not arrive at his home in the Folkestone area.

He said over the course of a week in late September, a number of parcels shown as delivered on the Evri tracking system never reached him.

He also raised concerns about returned items which he said never reached retailers, meaning he did not receive refunds.

Some of the photographs taken as proof of delivery just showed pictures of a black screen, he added.

He said retailers refused refunds because the items had been marked as delivered.

'Zemlanojs said he carried out his own investigation using CCTV footage and delivery records.

"I feel extremely sorry, not just for myself, but for other people who may have experienced similar problems with them, left dealing with the situation on their own," he said.

"I cannot imagine how many people have gone through something similar and felt that nobody was listening to them."

Zemlanojs added: "I just want to receive the orders I pay for. That's it."

Zemlanojs said some parcels and returns never reached their destination

Kent Police reviewed material provided by Zemlanojs but told the BBC the matter was a civil issue.

In an email to Zemlanojs, officers said: "Having carefully considered all of the available evidence, we do not currently have sufficient evidence to prove that a theft has taken place."

An Evri spokesperson said: "We have a zero-tolerance approach to fraud by our people and our customers. We immediately investigated these allegations."

They said the incident did not reflect the standards expected.

"As part of our investigation, we also uncovered inconsistencies in the customer's account and an unusual pattern of claims linked to the address which we are investigating further," they said.

Zemlanojs responded: "I do order a lot of items through the post – and because of this they may see an increased number of returns - compared to other customers."

I had a parcel go "missing" in a warehouse, since then I always request a different courier, I do not trust Evri.
