Royal Mail postal delays affecting three Essex towns

Residents in three Essex towns face postal delays because of ongoing problems at local delivery offices.

Royal Mail has confirmed that delivery offices in Brentwood, Canvey, and Witham are experiencing disruptions, which could lead to delays in receiving mail.

On their website, Royal Mail claim the delays are due to “high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors”.

They said: "We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.

"In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding."

The postal service maintain that they are taking concerns seriously, and are focused on improving their performance.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We take concerns about deliveries seriously and are focused on improving performance for customers.

“Our latest results show that 85% of First Class letters are delivered the next working day and 98.1% within three days. Across all letters, 93% are delivered on time and more than 99% within a week.

“We are continuing to make changes across our delivery operation to improve reliability and provide a better service for customers.”
