Royal Mail warns of postal delays in parts of Somerset

RESIDENTS in parts of West Somerset are being warned of possible delays to their post after Royal Mail issued a service update affecting the area.

Customers in TA22, TA23 and TA24 postcode districts have received an email from Royal Mail advising that deliveries may be disrupted because of "resourcing issues" at Minehead Delivery Office.

The postal operator said some delivery routes are currently experiencing temporary disruption, although mail continues to be delivered across the area.

In its email to customers, Royal Mail said: "Deliveries in parts of the TA22, TA23 and TA24 postcode areas may be disrupted due to resourcing issues at Minehead Delivery Office."

The affected postcode areas cover Minehead and surrounding communities across West Somerset, including parts of Exmoor.

Royal Mail acknowledged the impact delays can have on residents, particularly those waiting for important correspondence.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: "We know how important reliable deliveries are, particularly when people are waiting for hospital appointments, medical information, bills or other important letters.

"We are delivering mail across the Minehead area, although some routes in the TA22, TA23 and TA24 postcode areas are currently experiencing temporary disruption due to resourcing issues.

"Items that cannot be delivered that day are prioritised for the next working day.

"We publish details of the delivery offices most affected by temporary issues on our service update page, so customers have clear and up-to-date information about their area. Our local team is working to minimise disruption and return deliveries to normal as quickly as possible."

Royal Mail has not indicated how long the disruption is expected to last.

Customers awaiting important documents are being advised to check Royal Mail's online service updates page for the latest information. The company said its local team is working to restore normal service levels as quickly as possible.

The warning comes as Royal Mail continues to monitor delivery performance across its network and publish updates where temporary staffing or operational issues affect service in specific areas.

This postal delivery disruption comes at a time when postal services in Minehead have already been under pressure.

Earlier this year, the town lost its only Post Office branch when the Post Office inside the Co-op store on The Avenue closed ahead of the supermarket's permanent closure.

Residents were warned they would have to travel to nearby Dunster or Timberscombe to access Post Office services while efforts continued to secure a replacement branch.

The Post Office stated they are working on setting up a full-time temporary branch and a permanent replacement in the town, but an opening date has not yet been announced.
