MARC CUCURELLA has been hailed as a “top lad” after letting his postman hold his World Cup medal.

The former Chelsea star, 28, has returned to his home in Horsham, West Sussex, as he prepares to link up with his Real Madrid team-mates.

The Spain hero is still riding the wave of his World Cup triumph after being part of the team that beat Argentina 1-0 in the final.

And he received plaudits after sharing a piece of that famous night with his postman Gary.

Cucurella has been living in the town for a number of years and has built up a relationship with Gary.

Gary spoke about their interaction on social media as he hailed him for letting him try on the medal.

He called Cucurella “down to earth” in a gushing Instagram story post.

Gary wrote: “Had the pleasure of chatting to local World Cup winner Marc Cucurella while delivering his post today.

“Very nice, down-to-earth guy. Let me hold his winners’ medal.

“I reckon I am the first Englishman to hold a World Cup winners’ medal in 60 years.”

He posted a picture of the medal around his neck and a selfie of the pair.

The photo showed off Cucurella’s new hair style, which saw his hair swept down in neat braids – rather than his usual high-volume curls.

Fans were full of praise for the left-back after his classy gesture.

One said: “Seems like he’s a really nice guy.”

Another said: “Cucurella is a top bloke… not an arrogant winner and does a lot for charity.”

A third added: “Absolutely top lad… love this story to bits.”

And a fourth said: “The more I learn about him, the more I like him.”

Others admitted they were “struggling to hate him” after emerging with huge credit over his displays and personality at the World Cup.

Cucurella played 163 times for Chelsea and and won the UEFA Conference League and Club World Cup before joining Madrid in a £51m deal.

He recently touched the hearts of fans after revealing he keeps his hair long and untied so his autistic son can pick him out on the pitch.
