Donna Singleton, Shanklin:
I’m writing to you about our dreadful postal service on the Island.
I’m aware it’s not the whole Island, but it certainly is in the Shanklin area and others that I’ve seen on social media.
I live in Carter Avenue and for a long while we have no post at all, for five to six weeks at a time.
I know it is stacked up at the Sandown sorting office, as I’ve spoken to many posties who have told me so.
Then we get a delivery of 17 letters (to me) at once.
I’ve had lots of conversations regarding this to people that work there.
They have been instructed to only deliver parcels, first class mail and tracked post regularly.
There are many instances that I’ve received mail far too late, i.e. hospital appointments (letter arrived cancelling my appointment two days after the actual date!), birthday cards arriving three weeks after the date (checked with sender) and several more instances.
I’ve written to Royal Mail, who sent me the standard letter that they deliver every two days.
I’ve written to Joe Robertson MP who kindly investigated and received almost the same reply as I did.
It’s just a diabolical service we’re receiving.
It seems when Royal Mail head office is contacted, they contact the local office and frankly are told a a load of baloney, so it’s not investigated correctly!
We have now resorted to going down to the Sandown sorting office, which is only open 8am to 10am, and picking up our mail.
They are quick enough to increase the price of a stamp, but literally don’t deliver.
Can anyone help?
