Further to the recent letter regarding concerns over parking problems in Shortbridge Street and Gas Street, Severn Square Newtown, it surely does not help that for six days weekly the towns Royal Mail depot uses the public highway as a loading operation with a mixture of branded and hire vans contravening the one hour limit and stopping other drivers from parking.
Both Powys County Council and local Royal Mail management do not seem bothered at the situation which I am sure affects local business.
Maybe the mail depot would be better on a local business park as many other locations have, or alternatively vans could be parked in the public car park opposite providing revenue for Powys County council and freeing up the parking bays, but this would require proactive management from the Royal Mail who are probably too busy in the office overseeing the reduction in quality of service in the name of progress, but that’s another discussion entirely.
