I don't think there is a maximum, think it's down to the individual office managers to decide, be it a Mail Centre Manager or Shift Manager in a MC or whatever DOMs are now known as in DOs.

It can get bad at times when you're working on a machine. The heat can also mess up the machines, if it gets hot enough then cameras and computers in the machines start shutting themselves down and where the belts get a little slack we get more jams and more belts coming off than normal.

There is no maximum temperature only a minimum. However when the met office issues severe weather warnings the severe weather risk assessment must be carried out. The assessment advises what mitigations should be deployed to reduce or eliminate the risks. This includes delivery suspensions and adjustments to delivery outdoor times.

A very sizeable chunk of England and on a couple of days Wales as well are under a Met Office Amber Extreme Heat Warning.

It’s a failing of the union that they’ve managed to make no progress on the safety of staff in hot temperatures - now that we’re out 3 or 4 hours later in the day, and heatwaves have become hotter and more common, it’s really poor that they’ve done nothing whatsoever. Then again, looking at the recent dialogue from our resident union higher-ups, I’m surprised that they manage anything at all. When your entire working life is spent in air-conditioned offices, 35c+ for 5 hours isn’t really a problem. Nor will they care much for the unusually high rates of skin cancer in posties and ex-posties in the coming decades.

I’ll just be walking around until around 11.30 then I’ll drive the rest of the tracked around, I won’t be taking the full duty out in those temperatures, I don’t care what management think.

Sensible, RM are probably expecting you to do that, however if they don’t say much they’ll expect the staff that don’t look after their own wellbeing to complete.

The maximum is 35c. This is the point at which you can return to the office.
