Police in Doncaster seized a former Royal Mail van that has “been led astray” during a clampdown on illegal vehicles in Doncaster.

Officers from Doncaster East Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out Operation Takeaway in Dunscroft, taking a number of vehicles off the road.

A spokesperson said: “The red van was a hard working Royal Mail van in a previous life, but unfortunately has been led astray since entering retirement.

“This van was spotted on The Oval at Dunscroft where officers asked the driver to stop.

“Checks were carried out and it was established this vehicle was also not insured.

“No insurance - no vehicle.”

“A silver van seen travelling along Broadway also caught our officers’ attention.

“The vehicle was requested to stop and officers spoke with the driver.

“After a few checks it was quickly established the van was not insured and therefore it was seized.

“We will continue to patrol the roads looking for vehicles that are being driven without a valid motor insurance policy.

“If you are found to not have insurance, your vehicle will be seized and you will face a possible day in court to receive six points and a hefty fine.”
