A new Royal Mail facility has been installed in Swindon and has already been praised by locals who say it's 'much better' than the company's digital postboxes.
The Royal Mail locker has been installed at Greenbridge Retail Park, outside Homesense, and is one of a number of digital parcel lockers that have been installed across the UK.
The locker, which will operate 24/7, seven days a week, allows residents to send parcels within the UK and internationally, via tracked, 1st class and 2nd class post.
To use the new Greenbridge locker, customers will need to print their own label at home and then follow the onscreen instructions to unlock the parcel locker and deposit the parcel.
The installation of the locker follows Royal Mail's recent 'digital postboxes' which were installed across the town at the beginning of 2026 and faced heavy criticism from residents who declared them "difficult to use".
Despite some initial concerns about the accessibility of this new batch of tech, the Greenbridge lockers seem to be a hit with locals.
Speaking to the Swindon Advertiser, Greenbridge shopper Chloe Connor said: "I do a lot of Vinted parcels and so I've used it a few times now and it's just so convenient.
"The location is perfect really because it means I can drop off a round of parcels while I'm out doing my shopping anyway, and I've found it really easy to use to be honest.
"As long as you're able to scan a barcode then I think it's pretty straightforward. I'd like to see more of them.!"
David from Wroughton, who was shopping at Homesense, added: "I haven't tried it yet but they do seem so much better than the postbox they added near me that has the parcel slot.
"It's a pain to fit parcels in those postboxes and I always worry about anything breakable dropping to the bottom. These seem much more suitable for sending parcels."
Royal Mail has made it clear that their new locker, as well as their digital postboxes, are not a replacement for traditional post offices and simply offer another option to customers.
Speaking previously, a Royal Mail spokesperson told the Adver: "Our postboxes of the future offer another convenient way for our customers to access Royal Mail's services.
"This is alongside home delivery and collection, our Customer Service Points, Post Office branches, lockers and Royal Mail Shops.
