Post Boxes Being Used As Rubbish Bins

Post by pinstripe »

Reading an article on here about people using a postbox as a litter bin reminded me.

On one of my rounds, one of the post boxes is regularly stuffed with small pieces of rubbish, crisp packets, dog poo bags, sticks, etc.

When emptying this box what should I do with the rubbish? Leave it on the ground? Leave it in the box? Bundle it up with the mail and send it off to the mail centre? Take it to the nearest bin (about 400 yards away)?

If I leave it on the ground, can I get done for littering?

It's frustrating that I often rubbish in the postbox when there's a bin not more than 10 yards away.

However, if there's a dog poo bag, report it to customer service so they can retrieve the waste and sanitise the box. Do not touch the mail to avoid contamination.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Same as if there was a used needle in the box: don't touch anything, mark it down as an incident on the PDA, and report it in person to a manager. Romec/P&F should be sent out to handle it.
The machine stops.
