LTB 114/26 - CWU AND ROYAL MAIL AGREEMENT – MEMBERS COMMUNICATION

No. 114/26

16th April 2026

To: All Postal Branches

Dear Colleagues,

CWU AND ROYAL MAIL AGREEMENT – MEMBERS COMMUNICATION

We have attached to this LTB a copy of our first members communication which is being issued today direct to member email addresses.

This is the first in a series of communications and others will follow in a way that focuses on specific areas of the agreement.

You will see that prior to the ballot taking place there will be a range of different written and digital communications to our members.

We will also be providing our representatives with briefs to convey the key messages to our members in workplace meetings.

We would ask that Branches ensure that copies of the members communication are also distributed in the workplace.

Further information will follow in due course on the ballot timetable.

Yours sincerely,

Martin Walsh

Deputy General Secretary (Postal)

Dave Ward

General Secretary

Tony Bouch

Assistant Secretary

Davie Robertson

Assistant Secretary

Andy Furey

Assistant Secretary

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Correct, the ODM is not being taken forward. Instead we have ODM+.
In case Wardy and Walsh haven't noticed it's still the impossible 4 in to 3 :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

ODM was 3 people doing 4 duties

DM26 is 3 people doing 4 duties

I'm confused

We can't even get done with 4 people doing 4 duties now, so how is this possible.

What idiot dreams this stuff up.

Initially there was talk of 3 in 4, then that wasn't possible, so the cwu went for 6 in 8 * instead. Now we are back at 3 in 4 again ?

All for an additional 1%, ie 3% instead of 2%.

Indeed, why would anyone vote yes ?

* same as 3 in 4 dave.

ODM was 2c only being delivered on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the second week, meaning on Tuedays we would be delivering 3 days 2c, (Sat, Mon & Tues) DM26 is now Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays every week.

Accepted it's only a marginal improvement but at the end of the day it's probably the best we'll ever get once OFCOM accepted that 2c would no longer need to be delivered on Saturdays and only on alternative days.

where does the savings come from ? if its 3 people doing 4 duties where does the 4th person go ? unless theres redundancies for 25% of the workforce then every body is still getting paid so where does the savings come from ?

If they are really going to introduce some additional walks :left: , more delivery staff would be needed, eating into that 25% saving on head count.

I keep saying the rationale for this is completely flawed: that we are engaged in an overprovision of service. How many offices out there are functioning as if 2019 never ended? Putting duties back in flies in the face of this.

The ODM/DM26/BS3000 has been with us all along - lack of day off cover since March 2020 reduced staff by a sixth, and flipping sides since the 2021 revisions is something like 1.5:2 AKA 3 into 4. The only way this would result in savings is if it weren't already happening.

I already suspect the government waived the takeover through to avoid being forced to nationalise RMG since there were no other interested parties. I now wonder if the previous owners, as headed by Cylon Thomson, were also motivated to avoid holding onto this lemon by any means.
The machine stops.
