Readers share experiences amid Wrexham Royal Mail issues

Frustration is growing across Wrexham as residents continue to report missed and delayed Royal Mail deliveries — with some saying post now arrives just once or twice a week.

The Leader recently reported on the story of one man who has only been receiving his post 'once or twice a week'.

That led to Frank Swinnerton, from Garden Village, having a near miss with a 'crucial' hospital appointment.

But, the issue has been a wide-spread one across the whole of the Wrexham area with MP Andrew Ranger calling it 'unacceptable', having received several complaints from constituents.

Last week, North Wales MS Carolyn Thomas, who was previously a postal worker, argued that 'profit is being put before public service'.

It was also announced last week that as from April 7, the price of a first class stamp will increase by 10p to £1.80, almost three times the cost of 10 years ago, while a second class stamp will go up by 4p to 91p.

Now, many of you have contacted us to share your views on the issue.

Tracy Williams said: "They've got an absolute cheek to charge what they do for stamps and then take over a week to deliver them, Royal Mail should prioritise mail - there's plenty of other companies for parcels."

Thomas Jones added: "It’s noticeable, here in Llay we play 'spot the red van' as it’s so infrequent."

Sonia Sales told us; "I think we only get post deliveries on a Wednesday. You never see a Postman on other days and the mail arrives as more than one letter."

Joanna Williams added: "I’m lucky to have mail once a week. I missed a hospital appointment because my letter arrived eight days too late. It's awful."

Keith Jones said: "We have not had any post for over a week."

In response to concerns raised over recent weeks, Royal Mail has said: “Attending the Business and Trade Committee will give us the opportunity to discuss the work we are doing to transform Royal Mail and the urgent need to implement changes to the Universal Service to deliver the services our customers want and ensure we are financially sustainable for the long term.”
