Post office staff have described bloody scenes after a haphazard break-in on the outskirts of the city.

Workers at the branch on Sherwood Road in Tuckswood were alerted to the incident in the early hours of Thursday morning and reported seeing bloodstains near where they believed the intruder tried to enter.

One staff member, who did not want to be named, said: "Somebody tried to enter here around 4am and we got a notice from the security company and police.

"We came here and the police had already arrived.

"We had to wait for a forensics team.

"There were bloodstains, probably from where someone had tried to get in.

"They had thrown a rock through the glass door and we found it inside.

"Everything was a mess.

"The money and everything were safe, probably because of the alarm and because they were cut.

"We got back into the building at 12pm that same day.”

The staff member added that he believed up four places may have been robbed within a short period of time.

On the same night, the nearby Shell Garage on Ipswich Road was broken into and cigarettes and cash were taken.

A forensic team could be seen at the Shell Garage which was cordoned off.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police attended a burglary at a petrol garage in Norwich during the early hours of this morning, October 16.

"The incident happened at around 4am on Ipswich Road when the premises had a number of windows smashed using concrete blocks.

"Cash and cigarettes were taken.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

It is not known if the break-ins are connected.

The Postmaster is lucky they didn't steal any cash as the Postmaster would have to make good any losses, Horizon 2.0 scenario again.

Why would anyone want to be a Postmaster :cuppa
