A dispute between DPD and some of its self-employed drivers over pay rates has been resolved following meetings between the company and driver representatives, DPD has confirmed.

The parcel delivery firm had faced the threat of disruption this week after a group of franchised drivers stopped work on Tuesday in protest over proposed reductions to the rates paid for small parcel deliveries.

The action was expected to continue for three days, but operations returned to normal after an agreement was reached following one day of stoppages.

In a statement, DPD said: “A small minority of drivers chose not to work on Tuesday in response to adjustments to some of our rates to reflect changes in our parcel traffic profile. The vast majority were working as normal. Following a meeting with drivers’ representatives, an agreement on a way forward was reached, meaning drivers that chose not to work returned on Wednesday.”

DPD did not comment when asked by Motor Transport whether the agreement was a temporary measure ahead of planned rate changes in January.
