I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Tony Bouch said:
'Double 2nd class mail every other day will mean longer days/duty spans, but a shorter working week (which could be 4 days)....
A lot of posties currently double prep rounds and that will move to single prep.....that's where part timers increase to full time.'
My Question:
What if part timers don't want to increase to full time? Where would part timers who want to remain part timers fit in?....
I was thinking maybe you're aiming to get part timers to work the same hours per day as full timers, but part timers would work one day less, but the maths doesn't work with that.
A 37 hour full timer if reduced to a 4 day week has to work a 9 hour 15 minute day.
A 30 hour part timer doing a 9 hour 15 minute day over 3 days totals just 27 hours 45 minutes....
I don't think Tony is on this forum.....but does anyone understand how this would work?

If its one of these 'temporary variation/uplift' contracts that people unknowingly had for years thinking they were permanently FT then PTers should tell them where to shove it
Permanent or nothing.
Permanent or nothing.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

None of our 3 day part timers want an increase in hours.

I hope the CWU haven't just assumed all part timers would love to go full time and that it's an offer that's too good to turn down....
Some posties like being part time for several reasons including reducing fatigue.

Child care needs another one, kids aren't suddenly going to get themselves ready for school/ nursery etc just because RM wants their parents to prep their duties.
So what happens if p/t staff refuse to move to f/t, who preps their duties, although why can't somebody who preps two duties now, not carry on doing it, as they can't leave the DO any earlier as they have to wait for the last wagon to arrive?

I do not want a 9 hour day.
That’s absolutely stupid.
If the aim was to reduce fatigue then that idea is insane.

hopefully they'd offer redundancy pay to any part timer that didn't want to go full time.

It sounds awful to me. A 9 hour day would drag. How much extra walking would that be - I'd assume another 40 to 60 minutes?
1. Your feet will feel like they have been pulverised into the concrete.
2. Your legs will feel like lead.
3. You will need 10 hours sleep every night to recover.
4. The day will drag for......9 hours.
5. You will probably be going home in rush hour traffic.
