AN Evri delivery driver is set to lose his job after he was disqualified for drink driving.
Oscar Carrington, 26, admitted one charge of drink driving when he appeared at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court this week.
Carrington was pulled over by police near Builth Wells on November 23, when staff at a petrol station reported a driver who appeared to be under the influence.
“Police had a call from a witness, regarding a drink driver,” prosecutor Shane Maddocks told court on Tuesday, December 17.
“The witness suspected the male was intoxicated. He was struggling to pay for items in the Texaco garage.
“Police caught up with him in a layby. He failed a roadside breath test and was arrested.”
Mr Maddocks said Carrington had no prior convictions.
Driving a VW Passat, Carrington was found to have 59 micrograms of alcohol in his breath – the legal limit is 35 micrograms.
Pat Matthews, representing Carrington, of Nantyrhwch, between Abergwesyn and Tregaron, said: “This is going to have an effect on him. He is a delivery driver part-time for Evri so, obviously, he won’t be able to do that once he loses his licence.
“He has never been before a court before. He would like to go on a drink driver improvement programme.”
Magistrates banned Carrington for 16 months; a ban he can reduce by completing a drink drivers’ rehabilitation programme.
He was also fined £200 and told to pay £85 costs and an £80 surcharge.
