A WOMAN a week away from reaching her 100th birthday was the victim of a Royal Mail bungle after postmen delivered her application for a telegram from the Queen to the wrong address.
The paperwork for the telegram for Dora McCullagh, of Gidea Park, who celebrates her centenary on Monday, was delivered to the Italian Embassy instead of Buckingham Palace!
The mix-up has enraged Dora's son Robert, 68, who spent hours filling out the forms for the certificate, which replaced the old telegram the Queen sent to all 100-year-olds.
It left his mother facing the prospect of celebrating her milestone birthday without the Royal congratulations.
Mr McCullagh, of Gordon Avenue, Hornchurch, said: "It is unbelievable. I am disgusted after everything I did that it wasn't delivered. You can't get a better known building than Buckingham Palace, surely?"
A Royal Mail spokesman said they had pulled out all the stops to get Mrs McCullagh her birthday card from the Queen.
He said: "As soon as we heard about the situation, we spoke to Mr McCullagh and Royal Mail made sure it did all it could to ensure the arrangements were in place in time for Mrs McCullagh to receive a 100th birthday greeting from Buckingham Palace.
