Post delivered to empty house

A DISABLED driver and her husband are furious with the Royal Mail after a postman delivered important driving documents to an empty house.

Marie Ducker, of Dixon Court, Westhoughton, who suffers from fibromyalgia, was due to receive a car tax refund from the DVLA as well as a log book for her new car.

But she never received the letters and has since found out they have been delivered to the wrong address.

The first she knew about the mistake was when a postman knocked on her door.

He apologised and told her he had posted her letters to a house across the road.

Initially, Mrs Ducker was not worried as she assumed she would be able to simply retrieve the letters from the householder.

But she soon found out that no-one lived at the address and the house had been repossessed.

Mrs Ducker, aged 62, said: “I have phoned Royal Mail several times and they have basically told us it is our problem.

“But for all we know, there could be all sorts that has been posted through the wrong door.”

It is not the first time the couple have had mail delivered to the wrong address and they are worried they may become victims of identity fraud.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we have put in place steps to prevent any further errors.

“Unfortunately, we are unable to retrieve the mail because it is now inside a private property.

“We advise Mrs Ducker to get in touch with DVLA to cancel the cheque and ask for both the cheque and the log book to be re-sent. If this incurs a charge with DVLA, then we are willing to discuss the matter further with Mrs Ducker.”

Poor old Ducker, I take it her house is clearly numbered.

Just one of those things really, we arn't all perfect and we all make mistakes. At least the postie had the balls to go and tell her about the error. I doubt there was a cheque in the post anyway , people that are registered disabled get free road tax.
