FIVE DAY WEEK
This has been floated about before but looks increasingly likely since no competitor's do a six day service!. POSTCOM & ROYALMAIL will in all probability look to reduce the six day week to just five to save money and the USO!.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

if we are to be a commercially run business then use our 6day delivery as a selling point and not 'dumb down' the service. Don't we all work a 5 day week anyway with either a day off or every 6th week off depending on office structure. Let the rest of europe raise their game to match ours and anyway it's the british right indeed duty to show the rest of europe they are wrong and we are right!!

Now this is a good point, because we seem at this moment to be in `a taking frenzy`.....all these `pieces of silver`that are coming our way are the result of less bodies (colleagues) in the business and that has resulted in more physically demanding work for those of us left on the `delivery side`.......and we do not require a `thread` on the subject of, is there more work or not, as this has been done to death already.linkinpark wrote: are none of these covers your mates?

My point is that we criticize Big Al & little C for `cutting costs` which means less people, and it seems to me we are in danger of advocating the `same` when we encourage the talk of a 5 day delivery system?...... Saturday should be a lighter day, lets keep it!
If `it` does not go on Saturday we will be taking `it` on Monday.

We all work a five day week but the delivery spec is for six take one out of that spec and you will be carrying rather a lot of mail over the five day spans
it's the one thing that must be kept !!. If you go to a mon to fri delivery then thousands will lose there jobs just hope that if it ever does get implemented then those that advocated it will be first out the door i presume

Trouble is, there aren't any mugs anywhere else in Europe quite like the British, with their "work until you drop" ethos. Once a week or how about every two week's just after the bin collection's!. When will the madness of gordon brown end!.BELIAL wrote:Why stop with Mon-Fri. ? Sure that might save 40,000 jobs but once youve set the precedent of changing the USO think how many more you could cut.
Why not deliver every other day? One postie covers two walks, no more next day delivery but I'm sure RM would offer the carrot of a token price reduction
