Evri, the delivery company formerly known as Hermes, unveiled plans to recruit over 5,000 new workers in the UK ahead of a busy winter period, capitalising on a sustained boom in the industry in 2023.

Parcel volumes at Evri have surged beyond pre-pandemic levels in recent months, delivering more than 2.5 million packages per day in June and July, and means the group has created over 10,000 new jobs this year.

Martijn de Lange, Evri's chief executive officer, said: “Ahead of the busy festive period, we are about to embark on the biggest recruitment programme in our history. This follows another significant year of growth, supported by continued growth from online retailing, including marketplaces and pre-loved sites, as customers increasingly look to buy and sell second-hand products.”

Hiring couriers, customer service roles, and positions at hubs and depots, Evri, will be adding to its 24,000 self-employed couriers which deliver around 730 million parcels annually, catering to 12 million customers per week.

Expecting to double in size over the next five years, the support service group is pushing for international expansion, improving its consumer-to-consumer and business-to-consumer marketplace models and is working with Amazon to deliver its packages.
