Transfer to Gatwick VOC

Post by fatredeye »

Hi, I’m currently working at a delivery office. I’ve got 19 years service as a postman but I saved up, paid for private training and have now passed my class 1 (C+E) driving licence for the HGVS. I’ve also passed all the CPC tests so I’m all ready to go to transfer ideally to my nearest VOC which happens to be Gatwick.

Now my question is who do I speak to to go about this? My manager doesn’t want to lose anyone else after the recent mass exodus so that’s a dead end, and I don’t know anyone at the mail centre.

I would hope after paying for training myself and having it all ready to go, plus already being a driver for Royal Mail (so already on the books albeit only the CDV’s) as well as them self-insuring then it should be pretty straightforward.

Any help on this would be appreciated, like who to phone, numbers etc

TIA

I was in the same position as you a few years ago.
I wrote a letter to the transport manager at my nearest voc asking to do overtime on my rest days and posted a photocopy of my licence and CPC card.
They got back to me and I had a assessment, I passed it and did overtime to get experience untill a job came up! Been driving for 5 years now.
Be patient it takes time! there will probably be a network revision next year and once done they will know how many drivers they need and jobs will come up.
Keep a eye on success factors too
