LTB 119/23 - RESIGNATION OF ROYAL MAIL GROUP CEO SIMON THOMPSON
No: 119/23

12th May 2023

TO: ALL POSTAL BRANCHES
Dear Colleague

RESIGNATION OF ROYAL MAIL GROUP CEO SIMON THOMPSON

You would have heard the announcement earlier today that Royal Mail Group CEO Simon Thompson has resigned from his position. The CWU welcomes this development as will our members and representatives.

Simon Thompson is one of the key individuals responsible for the financial crisis that Royal Mail Group has created over the course of the last year.

The CEO was also one of the key people responsible for the appalling mantra of ‘It’s our business to run’ that saw the employer openly attack its own workforce on a relentless basis, including developing a culture of imposition which has now created quality of service and USO failures on a scale which threatens the future of the company.

However, we recognise that the CEO was only one of the senior leadership team responsible for the unacceptable actions and behaviours of managers across the UK throughout this dispute. Further change in Royal Mail Group’s leadership team is vital.

:funneh
It is important that the next Royal Mail Group CEO is somebody who understands the only way to turn around the fortunes of the company is by taking the workforce with them.

Yours sincerely

Dave Ward
General Secretary

Andy Furey
A/Deputy General Secretary (Postal)

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

This will make no difference whatsoever to the workers. If only we had a union like RMT or ASLEF. I heard one of their union guys say today that every strike day would be a day of inconvenience to the public but you can’t help that. A strike day will always fall on some occasion. They are not worried about the Eurovision Song Contest or Manchester United or city fans getting to London for the FA cup.

They are worried about their members lives and their cost of living. They have turned down £65000 for their drivers and £33000 for the conductors and we are being told our mere pittance extra a week is a ground breaking deal. I’ve heard RM 7.5 tonne drivers saying we better vote yes because it’s the best we are going to get. Well I can guarantee in deliveries the feeling is totally the opposite.

I know one thing they said was correct, and that was it’s a race to the bottom. You were dead right it was. I think we have won that race for sure.
Lives and mental health have been torn apart I think it’s beyond repair.

dont know what the legal fees entail but the ''outplacement'' is support for employees affected by redundancy. its to help them through a support network that will help them successfully transition to the next stage of their career. :evil/mad obviously we will get the same sort of package then :Very Happy

It's actually a poor package for a leaving CEO.

He is that bad. We want rid of him ,they want rid of him. He's clinging on for little add on perks.

But us scrubbers who make the money get vr slashed to 18000 and sick pay virtually non existent after the first absence in a 12 month period. We make the money. We made over 400 million of the 700 plus million and got near Jack s**t plus a fiver after tax to help with the cost of living per week. In the space of a year we are facing bankruptcy and he's receiving that. What about our contractual entitlements. Why are they so easy to rip up and not that of some complete corrupt loser. How on earth did he become so rich with such an appalling track record. TRACK LOL.

Good and informative press release by Dave Ward and Andy Furey that keeps us all in the picture.
They are right, Simon Thompson is at the root of all this dissent and aggro that has brought Royal Mail to its knees and damaged the liveliehoods of tens of thousands of posties.
