SOLIDARITY was shown with striking posties last week when a Labour councillor joined the picket line in Weston.
On Saturday, October 1, south ward councillor James Clayton stood with postal workers in the Communication Workers Union (CWU) after they staged a 48-hour walkout.
Union bosses say that Royal Mail staff are demanding a 'dignified proper pay rise' in a long-running dispute over pay and working conditions.
The fallout also concerns changes to contracts.
Last week the CWU said its members will take industrial action against Royal Mail for 19 days across October and November.
Postal workers will stage a walkout on October 13, 20, 25 and November 28.
Former mayor, Cllr Clayton, said: "I was out on the picket line supporting our posties and fighting to keep their current terms and conditions.
"In order to get a pay rise, they are expected to drop their current terms and conditions which will leave their current employment vulnerable.
"Recruitment has been frozen so they're unable to deliver to 32million households, six days a week. In Weston, around 20 per cent of our post can't get delivered properly because of this."
