POSTCODE WAR

Royal Mail bosses are refusing to end a group of residents' postal misery by granting their wish to change postcode.

Households say confusion leads to post getting lost, takeaway food going AWOL and workmen not turning up.

But the Royal Mail has said they will only change a street's postcode for "operational reasons."

The postal problems are happening to residents living on a grade-II listed terrace with an identity crisis.

The row of 18th century homes used to be known as Clapton Terrace, located in the postal district N16.

But when new postal boundaries were drawn up the street became known as part of Clapton Common in E5.

Residents argue their listed terrace set back from the busy main road has its own distinct identity.

Lynn Altass, the co-chair of the Clapton Terrace Residents Association, said the postcode was an "anomaly."

"Maps of the area show the street being the only road south of Clapton Common as being an E5 address," she said.

"London A-Z's have always referred to the terrace as Clapton Terrace even though it has commonly been known as Clapton Common for many years.

"This leads to many people getting lost and keeping it as an E5 postcode will continue to exacerbate this problem.

But on Tuesday, a Royal Mail spokesman ruled out any changes.

""Royal Mail would not change the postcode unless there was an overriding operational need to do so," he said.

Surely the council change street names not RM. Royal Mail would only change the postcode. And if these people cannot give the correct address then they've only themselves to blame.

At least they're getting their post if it's properly addressed

We tend to get alot of Mail for Clapton Common E5

We are Clapham Common SW4

The row of house's have been Clapton Common for years, it's just a case of a group of people trying to get there postcode changed to N16(Stoke Newington) which is an up and coming area and has higher house price's then E5(Clapton). Off there own backs they have started using the Clapton Terrace address and as such a lot of there mail is being returned and people can't find it.

I can sympathise.

One of the walks I deliver had a new development built on a small side street with only 2 addresses on it. The developers used the postcode of the main road rather than the side street and now all the mech' for the 57 flats goes to the wrong walk and when the main road walk is on overtime the new development doesn't get half their mail for that day.

We deliver to Alsager/Rode Heath and Scholar Green all in Cheshire. Alsager especially been trying to get a Chehire Post code for years to no avail(snotty lot!!) We are based in Staffs closer to them than Crewe but WTF

We had a customer on one of our rurals moaning her house should be in with BL postcode because she wanted to get her kid into some school and was being excluded off the council.This went on for sometime with the council and RM arguing the toss.
Her house shouldn`t have been in our rural but RM caved in,the ironic/moronic thing is she moved 5 months later onto my delivery and now my mate has to deliver there 5 miles out of his way and even sees the BB rural guy driving past but as it`s now officially a BL postcode they can`t change it back!
