The Europa Study Unit has awarded Royal Mail first prize in its Europa Stamps Design competition for 2007.

The 2007 Europa stamps theme was the ‘Centenary of Scouting’ and the United Kingdom’s Europa stamps were part of a Royal Mail set issued on 26 July 2007, the day prior to the opening of the 21st World Scout Jamboree held in Chelmsford.

Second prize went to Monaco and third was awarded to Italy.

Following the Europa award Royal Mail was presented with two further awards at this year’s Design Week Awards ceremony in Central London, recently.

The Design Hall of Fame Award which recognises the winners’ commitment to design, was presented to Royal Mail’s Head of Design Marcus James and Design Manager Catharine Brandy.

The evening was a double celebration for Royal Mail, as special stamps celebrating the music of The Beatles won the Print Design Award. The award was presented to Royal Mail Design Manager Catharine Brandy and designer Michael Johnson of Johnson Banks. Royal Mail’s 2006 ‘Lest We Forget’ Poppy stamp was also shortlisted for this award.
