So Si and the guys are floating the suggestion of annualised hours
Simon Says
I don't know whether annualised ours is the right phrase for what it is that we are proposing to do, what we're actually thinking about, and look, it's for the negotiation team, we'd love to have The CWU's point of view as well, but what we're thinking about is how can we give everybody a regular income every month, accepting that off peak, you'll work less hours per day, but on peak, you'll be working more hours a day.
It should release more time for holidays during off peak time, it should allow everybody to plan their income on a more regular basis, and it also means that we'll need less temporary workers during the peak we feel, so we can have more of the core team delivering them brilliant quality and productivity, which they actually do best.
Let's ensure the CWU have a good idea of the workforce's thoughts on the subject at least from our small corner.
Yay or nay?
"A third of the world's farmland is now useless due to soil degradation, yet we still keep producing mouths to feed. And what's you answer to that? Energy saving lightbulbs?"
So how is it going to work, no info as yet that I can see, is the idea that all duties are equal so we all get paid the same as in theory we've all got the same workload ?
If that's the case then the royal mail upper management are even further detached from reality than I thought.
Surely there'll still be a start and finish time per day, I forsee posties being expected to complete regardless of how long it actually takes, wasn't there some sort of duty ownership bollox rumour banded about a few years ago that was a similar thing.

Probably along the lines of heres the start times for 25hr/30hr/35hr/37hr contracts, this is the walk your on clear it today, if you get back and theres still stuff in the office clear it (regardless of how long it takes) then go home. And you'd just recive your contracted hour pay or minimum wage for hours youve worked whichever is smaller.

However if one week you worked 25 hours there would be another week where you would have to potentially work 49 hours. Scrap that!

Dont happen anymore, dispite what they say mail aint dropped that much and you still go to most houses everyday even with one letter.
Really think its just job and know under another name and will insentive everyone to crack on and clear the office as efficently as possible so everyone goes home on time.
I book pressure nearly every day of the year .... when it's heavy I book more pressure. Don't know who you're talking to Si, perhaps people in these fabled Delivery Offices that are finding it hard to keep Posties out on delivery for more than 3 1/2 hours.

Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)
I assume this must mean we'd be walking more during the busier periods. We walk approx 10 miles a day! Do I want to be walking 13 miles a day everyday through these busier periods..... NO!
I want to avoid being in a wheelchair later in life!
These guys seem to have no idea how it feels to walk these distances up steps and inclines, even when putting post through doors we are straining our bodies. I am in pain constantly.
It's actually mad what we do. Who else walks 10 miles+ a day, we are probably the only profession who does such a thing. Even professionals who do that silly Olympic walking event don't even walk as far as we do as regularly as we do in their training. The armed forces probably don't do the mileage we do.
It will probably go along the lines of this;
Dropping all current contracts and go to a salary pased part time and full time working pattern
part time would probably expect a min of 30 hours, full time a min of 35hrs.
full time would be IP/prep and deliver own job plus clear office at end of day.
Part as above but starting 2 hrs later so no IP.
Every 3 months they would check how many hours you had worked on average and either get you to work extra hours/days to make up your time if you are under and either offer A/L or make a payment (so you are above min wage) if you are over.
Coms would probably be encouraged to get everyone under hours so everyone would be able to clear thier own walks at no cost to the company over peak.
"part time would probably expect a min of 30 hours"they won't put contracts back up they constantly try to cut hours and erode terms that wouldn't be in there interest.

Was just an example of how it could work.
Delivery span 5hrs, prep of own walk 1hr total 6 hrs a day x 5 days a week 30 hours.
However you cut it someone has to prep the part time walks in and each one takes a hr so it can either be given to the pt or ft staff it costs the same money
