Update Friday 10am

A POST Office van from Market Rasen was attacked at Scotter near Scunthorpe at about 12.30pm on Thursday (27).

The cash carrying vehicle had left Market Rasen in the morning and gone to Scotter where the driver made a delivery to the post office there.
On returning to his van he was confronted by a black man with a firearm and was forced back into the red Ford Transit Post Office security van by the gunman and a second man and made to follow a white van onto the Susworth Road.

They turned off the road into woodland and the offenders began unloading cash boxes and trying to open them.

The Post Office driver managed to run away into the woods and made
his way back to the post office at Scotter where the police were called. The Post Office van was found abandoned in the wood minus some of its cash cargo, although the exact amount is not known.

The white van believed to have been used in the raid was subsequently found abandoned at a flyover under the M180 near Scunthorpe. It is a white Seat Inca car sized van and was bearing the false registration number R682 EBE but was actually stolen from the Rotherham area between March 23 and 25.

No-one was injured during the incident but the driver of the post office van was very shaken by the experience.

Two offenders were seen, one is believed to be black, but there are no further descriptions available at this point.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information about the robbery is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Paul Myers of Lincoln CID on 01522 882222.
