Collection from customer with Covid

Post by geordieboy123 »

I done a customer collection today and as she was about to give me the parcel she announces that the whole family have Covid. When she completed the form online she was asked if she had a dog but not if he had Covid, this needs to be addressed surely as it puts us at risk.

Surely it's no more a risk than collecting dozens of COVID test kits on our daily collections run, or handing over parcels to somebody suffering from COVID? I agree though it's odd we don't ask the customer if they, or an household member, are presently suffering from COVID.

That seems a good question to ask on the Workspace app?

It’s more risky as the customer was actually speaking to me so therefore in range, I’ve actually sent an email to just say it which is the CEO’s office I believe.

Why couldn't you just step back while they put it on floor outside house then ask for them to go back inside the house then pick up parcel, put in van, alcohol gel on hands and jobs a good un.

In UK ,1 in 80 people have Covid ,and I treat every door I knock on that the occupiers may have Covid.
Parcel on the ground ,knock and take a few steps and wait for answer ,the same applies for collections ,gelling after handling parcel.

This doesn’t excuse the shocking behaviour of your Customer who knowingly has Covid putting you at risk.

Royal Mail has a duty of care to protect their employees ,they started offering a collection service during a Pandemic and this is what happens.

Look around your DO, does it seem like RM care about if you get covid? RM do not give a stuff if you get covid or not, in fact in my DO the manager even said and I quote "I hope the whole office get covid before xmas, so we get no one off when its busy" and sure enough there are 10 people in my office isolating with covid in last week, and still 90% do not wear masks, no social distancing and no ventilation measures. To RM we are just a payrol number, they don't care if you get covid or even die from it. Even amazon are not that bad. Posties should remember that over xmas when your asked to do overtime. Tell them to f-off, because I will be.

Sorry mate I wasn’t clear, she placed it on a ledge in her open porch and I was at a safe distance but she was struggling with it and instinctively I moved forward to help her, wrong I know, and at this point she told me but the point of the post was to highlight the fact that customers are not asked if they have Covid.

Probably something to do with data protection. Maybe there should just be a generic instruction that IF you have covid when the parcel will be collected please keep your door closed, inform the postie, then follow the procedure I outlined. Shouldn't worry too much you'll be in close contact with loads of people who have covid and don't even know.

Yeah, most of them in your own office.

She's a bitch for that, when you knocked she should have told you to stand back and then told you about Covid.
I'd be fuming at her.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
