Part Timer

Ive been with royal mail for 2 years now and im still on 22.5 hours a week! I do overtime and stuff at xmas and always work my day off if i get the chance!

But whats the chances of going full time? Am i gona have to wait for someone to leave the office or what?

Basically yes - I went full time after 1 year because the duty holder had to come of my walk after an assault. I was the only one who applied as it is famous in the local area as a bad estate and it was a full time duty.

Now days RM seem to be changing full time duties to part time duties whenever a duty becomes available, so you may be waiting a long time.

I was told in the interview when I applied that there would be little or no option for full time contracts. They were only looking to recruit part timers.... I do the same as you, overtime, work days off etc, but Im not sure whether that makes a difference. I suppose if someone left then there might be an opening then, but because Im fairly new I might be well down the list....

......means fewer FT posts and more PT posts, cheaper for the company and it's pension contributions.

Probably means less hours and more points of delivery too.

Yes, simple, go for a full time vacancy nobody else wants. I was fortunate to go full time before long and it's not as bad a walk as they all make out. .

I also got full time by singing for the 'worst job in the office'.

Turned out to be a load of crap, the only bother I ever had was with dogs which can happen on any round, any place., I liked it so much in the next re sign I went for it again, people thought I was mad but I just kept it's reputation alive to avoid anything extra being added to it!

Had to give it up last year when they turned it into a part time round.

For the record, I'm still full time!

no chance been here 9 years and no chance of full time got 30 hours and last week was offered buy down s**t creek and paddle come to mind

When is the automation going to be fully up and running for everywhere to be deeply affected?

It depends mate on whats going on at the office you work at.Are there any current vacancys,are management trying to make them part time?What is your local unions postion on this.At my office we had 4 vacancys and 3 new entrants were bought in on 3 month 40 hour week contracts and put against 3 of those duties,the other 1 is done by a reserve within the office.Management want savings 0f 184 hours at our place which would include those 3 jobs,but it will be our aim to keep those people within the office or find them a full time job at another office.It depends where you are on wheather duties are kept full time or reverted to part time which would be the choice of royal mail where possible

I'm on a 40 hour, 4 month contract, halfway through now. What are the chances of a permanent full time job at the end of it? Any idea anyone?

It all depends on what savings the business wants at your office i would think.Do you know what they want?Has your Dom or rep told you?If jobs are to go then im afraid the business will look at any one on a short term contract first as its the cheapest option for them.

i am 31 hrs it feels full time as you still work 5 days ,and dont really finish much early than full timers!

A few years ago I want my own walk and apply for full time reserve and got the job so it means more work and better income. I can suggest three things

1. Apply for very unpopular full time walk which no one want.

2. Apply for full time reserve position.

3. Wait long time until suitable walk come up or transfer to different delivery office if there is one nearby.
