Hi all. I went for an interview last month for a job as a Postie. They phoned me and told me they'd gone with someone else, but they'd like to keep me on their list as I'd passed all their assessments. I didn't expect to hear anything else, but they phoned me on Monday to say there was a job in another nearby DO if I was interested. I said I was, so the HR lady said she'd do the pre-employment checks and get back in touch by Tuesday afternoon or by today.
No word as yet, but the wait is agony - I've got no skeletons in my closet, so I'm not worried, but I am curious as to what they check.
CRB check?
Last employer reference?
HMRC?

What Checks???
Hey guess what? I've been in the job nearly 2 years now and they didn't even bother to contact the referees I listed on my application!!! Lax or what?
I presume they must have done at least some checks, maybe with the police or something?
Anyway, fortunately I AM an honest person.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

But if I go for my induction on the 31st, that is when I'd be starting employment with RM? I'll be getting paid for my induction day I presume? I bloody well hope so!
Another thing, the post I've got never went on the RM website, so I didn't get to read the job description. Someone in HR posted it in the "My Applications" section on the site and it has this in the job description, highlighted in blue:
The role involves working at offices in the surrounding area covering delivery roles. You must be flexible and able to travel to different offices at short notice.
You need to consider how you will get to work each morning, as public transport may not be available that early in the day.
Am I to be what is referred to as "a floater" then?

Yep you'll be a 'Floater' in more ways than one!
Or a nice name could be 'Cluster reserve' not a lot of honey but plenty of nuts.
