MRM.COM : Delivery office improvements - we have announced our first 100 units earmarked for upgrades

Our business has a history of more than five centuries standing. We have a rich and celebrated past. But we need to look ahead too, and to ensure that Royal Mail is fit for the future.

To this end, we are committed to improving 100 delivery offices in the 2021/22 financial year - as you might have heard when we announced this a couple of weeks ago.

The 100 sites have now been agreed. Click here https://www.myroyalmail.com/sites/defau ... 004%29.pdf to find a list of them.

We are dedicated to starting work on these 100 sites by end the of the 2021/22 financial year, moving as efficiently as we can to get everything finished as quickly as we can.

We know we have more offices that are in need of capital expenditure and future investment will be reviewed at a later date.

How were the sites decided?

The sites selected are most urgently impacted by the following:
  • Fit for our growing parcels business – our mailbag has changed from letters to parcels and the buildings need to reflect that
    Energy efficient buildings
What is important for our customers, as well as our people
This is an opportunity to create more modern fit-for-purpose spaces and to make things easier for colleagues at those sites. More efficient units will help our performance, and enable us to build trust on the doorstep.

The delivery office improvements are in addition to electric vehicle scoping work already started at these 70 sites https://www.myroyalmail.com/sites/defau ... ites_0.pdf with a view to installing electric charging posts in around 40 units this financial year.

All priority delivery units are in the process of being briefed about the list and given further details as to why they are or aren't in scope at the present time.

Watch this week’s RMtv to hear more from Group Director of Property and Facilities Solutions, Martin Gafsen.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Delivery Office Improvements – First 100 Units Announced

A couple of weeks ago, we announced our commitment to improving 100 delivery offices in the 2021/22 financial year.
The 100 sites have now been agreed and can be found here. (See 1st post)

How were the sites decided?
The ones selected are most urgently impacted by the following
  • • Fit for our growing parcels business – our mailbag has changed from letters to parcels and the buildings need to reflect that
    • Energy efficient buildings
    • What is important for our customers, as well as our people.
Our commitment is to start work on these 100 sites by end the of the 2021/22 financial year. We know we have more offices that are in need of capital expenditure and future investment will be reviewed at a later date.

How quickly will the work be carried out?

For the 100 initial sites, some of the work is physical and some involves design and planning in order to do more extensive works further down the line.
Of course, not all projects are straight forward. Some require a fair amount of design, planning and liaison with external contractors and local authorities. But we’ll move as quickly and efficiently as we can.

How are we funding the improvements?

We will need to keep a very close eye on funds as we work through this project. Primarily the money will come from sales of surplus estate that we have. In the past we’ve sold off units, but we want to preserve the full extent of our delivery office estate as much as we can. Instead, we’ll look to sell off the space above or to the sides of the units.

This is an opportunity to create more modern fit-for-purpose spaces and make things easier for colleagues at those sites. More efficient units will help our performance and enable us to build trust on the doorstep. The delivery office improvements are in addition to electric vehicle scoping work already started at an additional 66 sites (four more overlap with the DO improvement list), with a view to installing electric charging posts in around 40 units this financial year.

All priority delivery units are in the process of being briefed about the list and given further details as to why they are or aren't in scope at the present time. Planning work will now begin in stages and we look forward to showing you the improvements as they happen.

I don't believe that Huddersfield is listed as North Yorkshire in the document. I might be wrong, but the N is probably for all locations in the UK north of South Wales and the Midlands, while the S is for the toxic wasteland regions in the south, like London and the Homeless Home Counties.

Look at Sheffield and Barnsley, for instance. Both cities are located in South Yorkshire but that letter N also precedes them on the list.

I think in the last reorganisation RM amalgamated all of their previous geographical territories into just two, North and South.
