Hero Posties
By Roisin McManus
Two West Belfast postmen showed their bravery this week when they rushed to the scene of an horrific building collapse in the city centre to help rescue those trapped.
Eddie Gough, who is orginally from Andersonstown and now living on the Ormeau Road, and Stephen Carabine from Beechmount, were amongst the first on the scene at the building collapse at a building site in Victoria Street on Monday.
Six people were injured in the major incident which is being investigated by the Northern Ireland Health and Safety Executive. Some workers fell up to 30 feet and had to be pulled from the rubble.
The local postal workers, who are based in Tomb Street, were driving through the city centre when the incident occurred. Eddie explained what happened.
“We had the two windows up in the van and the radio was on, but the ground shook and it sounded like there had been an explosion.â€
