CWU.ORG : New Royal Mail uniform - a wardrobe for all seasons

Next year, postwomen and postmen can wear their shorts all through winter AND keep those legs warm, with the addition of stretch leggings to the Royal Mail uniform range…

And the new tech-fit ‘base layer’ undershirt will keep arms and bodies warm, while an ‘explorer’ hat and ‘pioneer’ cap have been added to the headgear options.

CWU outdoor secretary Mark Baulch tells CWU News: “These are welcome new pieces of kit for our members, which hopefully will deal with the uniform issues we’ve had in the past. The stretch undershirt and leggings will be a good practical solution for many delivery workers in particular.

“Our nominated postal executive members have worked well with the company on this, and the trials of the new workwear have involved hundreds of volunteers from units all over the UK – it’s certainly been robustly tested.

“Thanks to everyone for the work they’ve done and, in my opinion, it definitely looks like a smart uniform.”

The kit, for which ordering is now getting under way, will be arriving from the start of next year and Royal Mail national uniform manager Sam Dixon says: “We have engaged with so many frontline members to really understand what they needed from their uniform, and it was obvious the current uniform was just no longer fit for purpose. The new Performance Wardrobe has been designed by the wearers and experts in their fields and the trial was a huge success.

“We had loads of great positive comments from customers throughout the trial which aligns with the business strategy of getting that trust back on the doorstep, I can’t wait to see our postmen and postwomen wearing their new garments next year.”

What’s this trust on the doorstep we’ve supposedly lost?

When you place your order for new uniform you HAVE to order the stretch undershirt and leggings, did a little straw poll in my office (large office 100+ staff) and very few actually want the stretch undershirt and leggings. What a waste of money issuing uniform that staff don't want and won't wear! I have no problem with anyone wanting the stretch undershirt and leggings, let them order them, but what a waste of money having unwanted uniform issued

The system only allowed me to checkout once I had ordered a full allocation of everything including 3 hats

Surely some mistake?

...and lay off the mince pies over Christmas, a lot of weight can be gained in 6 months. Things might not fit so well. Why we having to order now for something to be delivered in Spring 2022 is somewhat boggling my grey matter.

It says it’s been designed by the wearers , do they all have training in the fashion industry, because whoever designed the footwear obviously came from some tyrannical regime somewhere having been let go,for being too cruel to the populous.

I honestly wouldn't be seen dead in any one of the clothing items pictured that the male postie is wearing. I looked through the links and it looks like we still be able to get ordinary trousers replaced. Not sure about long or short sleeved ordinary blue shirts. I suppose if worst comes to worst we can always buy light blue shirts and dark blue trousers from sources outside of RM.
Trust was never lost by the public towards the posties and the work we do. Its our trust in the higher management of RM that was lost years ago and has yet to be regained by them. The new uniform allocation system certainly looks like a waste of money and resources. They might as well go the whole hog and give all male posties a couple of skirts as well!!!
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

I have autism and this uniform looks like it's going to be an absolute nightmare for me. I cannot stand clingy, synthetic materials. I just wear a baggy blue shirt and the normal trousers and it's been fine. The one thing that didn't really need to change that much was the uniform. So annoyed by this.

Similar for me, I hate clingy synthetic stuff, for me the only thing missing was a set of lightweight/full size stormproof coats like the ones we've got but that actually repel water.

Looking at this new uniform I'm imagining loads of posties wearing a combination of stretchy leggings and shorts looking like the shittest ever Sunday morning football team 😂

Just a quick question. Is anybody having difficulties when accessing the Dimensions website?

When I click on the URL https://detail.dimensions.co.uk/royalma ... ount/Login, I get an anti-virus warning message saying that the site can't be accessed because it is infected with a phishing threat. I've never had this problem before today.

Yeah, but without the antivirus program I always use on my PC. I can access the site when I shut off my antivirus program.

But it's a bit concerning considering the warning which started today. I'll give them a call in the morning and see what they say.
