POSTAL workers are being “insulted” by their bosses after apparently being issued with ‘fancy-dress’ masks instead of proper PPE, says a councillor.
A Royal Mail worker in Malvern Link contacted town councillor Sharon Taylor alleging they had been issued with the masks, which say 'non medical' on the label.
Cllr Taylor said: “As a town councillor for the Link, I was horrified to discover that our local posties were last week given protective face masks that were made in China and only designed for 'fancy dress' .
“They even had the audacity to put the Royal Mail name on the front.
“This is an insult by management to frontline postal workers putting their lives at risk.”
Cllr Taylor added that the union had been in contact with the management to try and resolve the situation.
On the label for the masks, manufactured by Dongguan City Dan Dan Garments, it says they are for “fashion, dress up and party (non medical)”
The knitted cotton masks also have “Royal Mail Group” stitched into the front.
According to the Royal Mail website, the organisation has spent more than £40million on PPE during the pandemic.
It says: “Royal Mail‘s number one priority is keeping our people and our customers safe.
“We have already committed around £40 million on buying equipment such as hand sanitiser, disposable gloves and other protective measures.
“We continue to follow the preventative guidance of public health authorities.
“We are doing everything we can to protect our people and customers while remaining open for business and offering delivery services throughout the UK.
“We have made a number of changes to our processes, and wanted to let you know about a few of them here."
The Worcester News approached Royal Mail for a comment regarding the allegations over the masts but did not receive a response before our deadline.
