Health Secretary Matt Hancock has once again praised Royal Mail, as we prepare to start our bespoke weekend collections service of Covid-19 test kits.
From this Sunday, collections can be made from 15,000 of our priority postboxes. We’re also increasing the number of priority postboxes available for Monday to Saturday postings – from 33,000 to 35,000.
Mr Hancock shared the news at today’s Government coronavirus press conference, saying: ‘I want to thank Royal Mail, who, from this weekend, will empty some of their postboxes seven days a week to speed up home testing.
‘It is a big team effort and I am very grateful for our posties playing their part to help keep people safe.’
We revealed our seven-day collections service in our extended end-of-the-month RMtv programme on 30 October. You can watch the announcement by clicking here...

For customers, our priority postboxes can be identified via the Royal Mail website or app.
‘Royal Mail has always been proud to help the country in whatever way we can and we could not be prouder of the support we have been asked to give the Government and the Department of Health and Social Care,’ said chief commercial officer, Nick Landon.
‘Since April, we have played a crucial role in the movement of test kits. This includes delivery to and collection from a growing number of regional test centres and care providers and the return of home tests.
‘As part of this we introduced a unique network of priority postboxes for the rapid return of test kits to labs to help in the country’s fight against the pandemic.’
The 15,000 priority postboxes that will receive seven-day collections will be identified by an additional label.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

What a load of nonsense. I’ve seen them mixed in with every type of Mail. It makes a good newspaper story but that’s about it.

yep same here just chucked in any boxes. Managers don't worry just use gloves and bag. How about a proper public ad on TV. Government could even fund it.

I don't have any post boxes to collect from on my walk so I don't carry any of the bags etc for the test kits in the van.
However, since the introduction of collect from doorstep, I've been wondering if I might end up getting a test kit direct from a customer.
Is this a possibility or do they have to be posted in the designated post boxes?

Hopefully test kits are not handed over for collections. The instructions within the kit tell them to call 119 to book a courier if they are unable to get to a priority box and don't have another person in the house to do it for them.

What is the correct procedure for the handling of these test kits once they have been collected from boxes and returned to the delivery office?
Should they remain in the plastic bags? Should they be separately held in a biohazard bag of some sort before being sent off to the mail centre?
I see them just lying around in our place unbagged.

Yes they should always be placed in plastic bag, this has not changed. Once scanned at office if there is alot of them they should be placed in green sacks
